Planning the trip

To celebrate my 75th trip around the sun, my wife Earline, and I decided to take a travel adventure to Chile, to visit Patagonian glaciers and lakes and then to transition to the Mendoza wine region of Argentina during their fall harvest to sample some wine varietals before moving to Buenos Aires for our final few days to renew our love of tango.

The planning started in September 2017 through an internet search for travel agents who were familiar with Chile and Argentina. We located one internet site that would plan a custom trip for us but it just seemed too expensive for what they were offering, especially as we would be self-driving for a fair number of days. We finally decided on  Enchanting Travels.

Paul Rea was very helpful in preparing for us a custom trip that starts in Santiago, Chile with our arrival on February 28th, 2018. After a day of travel rest, we will experience a Chilean cooking class by going to the market to gather ingredients, cook and enjoy the meal followed by a half day trip to the Malpo Valley, the oldest wine producing region of Chile.

We then fly to Torres del Paine National Park for hiking and a boat ride around these glaciers before traveling to El Calafate to visit the Perito Moreno Glacier. Our next location will be to Bariloche where we will make a border crossing by boat from Argentina to Chile. Back in Chile, we then visit Chiloe Island for the day.

We next travel to the Mendoza wine region of Argentina where we will experience a private wine tour. This region is know for its Malbec, Merlot and Pinot Noir, and Semillon grapes.

Finally, we fly from Mendoza to Buenos Aires where we had our honeymoon and plan to attend a tango milonga and to renew friendships with our Argentine friends before returning to the USA.
